For over 30 years, the blues-rock band Wild T & The Spirit has been electrifying audiences with their high-energy performances led by Trinidadian-Canadian guitarist and frontman Tony “Wild T” Springer. With influences from rock legends like Jimi Hendrix combined with Springer’s songwriting flair, Wild T & The Spirit have made their mark across North America and Europe.

About Wild T & The Spirit
Wild T & The Spirit was formed in Toronto, Canada in 1990 when Springer brought together a lineup after years of playing Hendrix tributes in local clubs. Their musical style meshes blues, funk, soul and rock with Springer’s fierce guitar licks that channel influences ranging from Hendrix to Lenny Kravitz.
The band is known for songs that blend emotion and imagination, taking audiences on a journey. Jeff Healey once remarked that “I followed him around like he was a Messiah, I probably learned more from Toney than anybody else, Toney’s been my idol for years.”
Tony “Wild T” Springer

Tony Springer grew up in Tunapuna, Trinidad, where he likely took his eventual stage name “Wild T”. His exposure to Yes guitarist Steve Howe originally inspired Springer to pick up the guitar.
Arriving in Toronto as a teen, Springer quickly gained attention on the late 80s blues club circuit for his technically skilled Hendrix tributes. This cemented his reputation as an axe virtuoso, and he was soon invited by iconic artists like David Bowie and Bon Jovi to collaborate.
Springer channelled this momentum into launching Wild T & The Spirit as his vehicle for songwriting and sharing his unique musical vision with the world.
Band Members
The current Wild T & The Spirit lineup features original frontman Springer on guitar and vocals, supported by bassist Guenther Kapelle, who joined in 2000, and drummer Dave Langguth, who has been here since 2012.
Past members like drummer Danny Bilan and bassists Brian Dickie, Kojo Ferguson and Chas Laurie each helped shape a chapter of the band’s history during the 90s. Each member brings their own unique talents, whether the intricate bass lines of Kapelle or the driving drums of Langguth. Together, they deliver Springer’s eclectic sonic vision.
Band’s History
Wild T & The Spirit gathered buzz quickly with their 1991 debut “Love Crazy,” hitting #1 on the RPM CanCon chart. Intense touring enabled them to regularly play with top names on the blues and rock circuit.
After getting attention stateside, Springer spent time in 90s Chicago collaborating with legends like Buddy Guy before returning to reform the band.

Kapelle’s arrival in 2000 brought a stabilizing influence that saw Wild T & The Spirit tour Europe extensively for the first time. Their mature 2004 album “True Bliss” won widespread acclaim as Springer’s songwriting hit its stride.
The 2010s and 2020s have seen Wild T & The Spirit continue to push their music forward, proven by their well-received 2015 album “Live”. Four decades in, Springer still conjures up creative magic.
